Thomas Rogers

I have been infatuated with art and painting since I was a child. My first real connection with fine art was when my 5th grade class took a daytrip to the Cleveland Museum of Art. I stood very close to the paintings, captivated by their depiction of the Middle Ages. I remember thinking at the time, if not for artists we would not know what it was really like to have lived before photography.

Within a few years I started painting by copying my father’s collection of oils with water paints. Hence, my painting career commenced.

I have painted in water, oil and acrylic and have been fortunate to have my paintings juried into museum, national and local art shows. I have painted outdoors, now called Plein Air, from nearly the start and it remains an integral part of my painting along with studio work.

My art was initially exploratory, learning by doing, which was reinforced with numerous instructional videos, and a host of books and demonstrations by accomplished artists. It further evolved by personal coaching instruction from nationally recognized artists (i.e. Joseph Sweeney, Robert Simone, Laurie Snow Hein, and John MacDonald) and Plein Air workshops offered by the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

I have traveled extensively throughout the US, Europe, Asia and Africa. By experiencing a vast number of diverse environments, I realized the radiant beauty of landscapes exists wherever light connects with nature. My paintings attempt to capture that moment of beauty so others can share the experience.
